Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fuel oil do you use?

We use a premium filtered fuel oil with 10% BioFuel per state regulations. Additionally, we put an additional additive in our oil to ensure that you are getting the best possible quality.

I received a bill in the mail, but I already paid for it

Service and Oil invoices are mailed separately. Sometimes there is a lapse between when your check arrives and when invoices go out, causing a "previous balance" to be listed that may be familiar to you. You can always call us to double check if you are unsure about your account balance.

How do you know how mcuh oil is in my tank?

We do not use any electronic monitors on your tank. We use a tried-and-true system called the degree day system. Degree days are units of measurement that indicate how much heating is required for a building. This gives us knowledge of how much fuel is in your tank, and how quickly we need to return

How will I know when my next delivery is scheduled?

If you select automatic delivery you can rest easy knowing that we have you covered. We aim to deliver around 40% of your oil tank capacity, and there is no need for you to deal with scheduling of any kind.

What types of payment are accepted?

We accept cash, check, debit or credit card. We also offer online account access where you can view your account and pay your bill with a debit or credit card. Plus, there are no fees associated with use of a card. We do not accept any electronic checks or ACH payments.

I am not a customer, can I still receive service?

No. Only Marshall Oil customers who regularly receive oil deliveries have access to our service department. Although, we would love to have you join the family!

A boiler typically needs replacing if over 15-20 years. Call the service department to inspect the boiler and assess the need for a new unit.

What temperature should I leave my thermostat if traveling in the winter?

Set the temperature between 55-65 degrees to prevent pipes from freezing. A low temperature alarm (with your alarm company) will notify you and us if the heat has gone out. Have someone (a caretaker or friendly neighbor) check on your home while you are away. Call immediately if heat has gone out!

If my burner shuts down, do I hit reset?

You can hit it once but, if it doesn't come back on - do not keep hitting reset! Allow the technician to properly diagnose the problem. Call the service dept 24/7/365 (914) 764-5766.

How often do I need my burner cleaned and why?

Annually - This will keep your unit running as efficiently as possible and helps troubleshoot any potential problems.
